straight down the line

I’ll admit I’m not a profession photographer, but I know how to use a camera.  My parents bought me a nice Canon for my birthday a few years back and since then I’ve taken some senior pictures for my friends and also done some pictures for my niece for a beauty pageant she was in.  Here are a few of the pictures that I’ve taken (the little girl is my niece).

Now I don’t use my Canon so much as my iPhone just because I always have my phone on me and it’s small so it’s easier to lug around.  I do take a lot of photos on my phone though (even if most of them are selfies).  For a phone, it has good quality pictures, but it’ll never be as good as an actual camera.  While looking through the lens, I can visualize what angles and lighting will look good and what won’t for whatever I’m trying to photograph.  I like to look for places or objects that will make another stand out or just bluntly looking for a way to make the picture look artsy in some way.  I do believe in some of my pictures I capture feeling, especially in the ones of my niece because she’s always so happy (as you can see she’s cheesin’ in her picture), but I think I could be better at it.  Now whether it be the people I’ve taken photos of or just my experience in general, I’m not sure which could be better…probably both.

To improve, I should definitely look at the way the light shines on objects more because that’s what it’s all about…making sure the lighting is right in every photo.  All of these pictures were taken outside also so I think if I had an actual studio where I could set up my own lighting and background it would be a little different but since I don’t have the space nor the money to do that, I’ll have to settle with the natural light and backgrounds to get my results!

I love photography and at one time, thought I would go into it as maybe a side business or something like that, but I would need more training.  For now, I also like to be in front of the camera and I have a photo shoot lined up with a local photographer when it gets warmer for a fitness shoot up on skyline drive!  This is a photo of me and my EX-boyfriend but I love the picture so let’s pretend it’s not me LOL. It also has kind of a noir feeling to it!

I enjoyed reading about and watching the different techniques of noir photography so hopefully I can do my photo safari justice!  I’m really excited about the fact that this week is based upon photography because as I said before, I’m a huge fan of taking pictures and I can’t wait to do the rest of the assignments for this week!
