We only had right now

And right now was all we needed.

There was no past, no future, no war.

I had him and he had me.

How long this would last I have no idea

But I pray that it will last for the rest of my life,

For the rest of eternity.

But I know that isn’t true,

That he would leave and fight strangers,

That he would kill another human.

And that he may never come back.

So, I put my chin up,

Smile a smile that is everlasting,

And look into his eyes one last time

As the camera flashes.
