Introducing Ames to the DS106 World :)
Hi everyone! My name is Amy. I am a sophomore here at UMW and just like you am registered in Digital Storytelling for the Spring Semester (with Professor Groom)!
I have always enamored by the power of good storytelling and have been interested in someday telling my own basically since I picked up my first pencil with its glow-in-the-dark pencil grip. And given my obsession with social media and blogging and all the aspects that come with them, I knew that DS106 was meant for me! It is so cool to me that our generation has a new way of telling stories through all the tech-y stuff that we basically grew up using, and I can’t wait to learn about all that Digital Storytelling has in store for me.
Anyway, while we’re on the topic of introductions, I feel there’s a few things my fellow DS106ers should know about me – no, Autocorrect; that’s an actual word … at least, it is when it comes to DS106!
Time to fall into the black hole of awesomeness that is #ds106 … Get it? Cause "noir"?!
First of all, as you can probably see from the above tweet, I am just about the cheesiest person ever. It happens when I get really excited over the things that make life awesome, namely, a class where I get to be creative and be on my computer, two of my greatest skills! As exemplified in the screenshot below, I’m clearly not the only on in DS106 with funny puns, so let’s be hilarious together by adding the hashtag #punny to any corny #ds106 tweets!
Also note as we start to follow each other on Twitter, if your time line isn’t full of my DS106-related tweets, than it will be undoubtedly inundated with ones in which I spastically spam my favorite celebrities simply because I love them so. Simply put, I am a professional fangirl. Seriously guys; if the Art of Being a Fangirl could be my major I would for sure have a 4.0 :). Just a few of my obsessions are, in no particular order:
Really cool design & typography type things;
SO many TV shows (cute actors are a much appreciated added bonus);
An inspirational quote or two to get me through the day (SO necessary);
SO many movies, classics old and new (again, cute actors are much appreciated);
All things Disney;
All things boyband (Don’t worry; I do listen to other music …);
And EVERYTHING Harry Potter! Self-proclaimed Huffleclaw, y’all
(I have my Luna Lovegood moments but that’s okay ’cause SHE’S THE BOMB).
If I could only describe myself with three memes, these would be the ones.
Leave a comment of what you think those descriptions are based on the memes! One of them should DEFINITELY be a gimme ;).
In my opinion, storytelling and music go hand in hand, and sometimes a story can be told within the very song you’re using to help tell yours. Come on, y’all; you know what I’m talking about … when you here a song and it just kind of makes your heart vibrate cause it resonates so much with your life? If my life were a sitcom (which sometimes, given my hilarious misfortunes, it does), this would be my theme song.
Not only is this song one of my faves (My faves changes everyday but this one has been my life’s anthem recently!) but it really represents who I am – actually, who I’ve become – as a person. After all I’ve been through, I’m still okay and always will be. Like Carrie Bradshaw once said, “Some women get lost in the fire; some are built from it.”
Lastly, I want to introduce you to one of my current celebrity obsessions. If you don’t know Eddie Redmayne, he’s ’bout to be an Oscar winner so look out, world! (PLEASE OBSESS WITH ME OVER THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING ON TWITTER; @delovelyames, hmu). More importantly I want to introduce you to his fab dancing skills and, even more fab, the way he kinda sasses Graham Norton. He’s just so freckly and posh and dorkily adorable, isn’t he?! *insert heart-eyed emoji *.
His dancing kind of reminded me of some sort of flappy Irish jig, probably how I’d dance if I were put on the spot like that, or even if I had years and years of practice.
So naturally, I took to iMovie to make it into just that.
Because in DS106, anything goes!
Alright, enough about me; what about you?! I can’t wait to meet my fellow DS106 friends, so leave me a link to your Twitter and URL so we can embark on the adventure that is Digital Storytelling together!
*in some sort of chanting/cheerleader type voice*
“Peace, Love, Twinkly Lights …. DS106, 4 LIFE!”
Ames.
