Week 1: Noir106 Summary
I started off this week slightly overwhelmed with everything I would have to do. I had previously taken the Digital Studies 101 course and I am very grateful of this. Having made a domain, I was able to navigate my way to a subdomain. I was easier to do a lot of things because of my experience in Digital Studies. I’m not very tech savvy, so having a digital class under my belt was very helpful in handling the first week of this class. If your interested in viewing my main site it can be found here.
The first thing I did was create a twitter account. I have never used twitter before this class, so it will be a very interesting experience for me to use it throughout the class. Twitter seems very user friendly and I had no problems tweeting my first tweet.

I created my Flickr later in the week and I found that it was the most fun. My pictures aren’t the best quality so posting them on Flickr was fun because they made them look really good. Flickr is relatively easy to use and I didn’t have any trouble navigating my way around it. One of my favorite pictures is the one of me and my friends during a snow day last year.
Soundcloud was something I have heard of but never bothered to make an account. I have seen some musicians post their music and I was intrigued by the website. I was excited to start an account because out of all the types of media, we are working with I enjoy audio and music the most. I will have fun posting and browsing the site.
Here is a link to my favorites on soundcloud.
Last but not least is my Youtube account. I already had a Youtube account and it will probably be my most used account out of all of them. I am a bit hesitant to post my own videos because I’m not that confident by I hope to over come that during the semester. One of my favorite things to do on Youtube is to listen to music and here is a list of some of my favorite songs.
Besides making different accounts, I had a lot of fun doing the daily creates. The first one was to take a bunch of different books and create a story. All I had lying around was Sociology and Anthropology textbooks so my story isn’t the best but I enjoyed creating it.
The second daily create was way more fun because I had to fun around my room and use random things to create a Fobot. I ended up using my roommates clock and a lot of duck tape.
I really enjoyed the noir project and discovering what the style is. I really enjoy the concept of noir and will probably search for more during the semester.
After I created accounts and began posting things, I found that embedding them into my posts was easy and hard.
Some of the media I wanted to embed worked fine while other links didn’t work. I had knowledge of how to embed somethings but I will have to work on embedding things like sound cloud into WordPress but I will work on it this semester.
Despite being worried at the beginning of this week, I did enjoy creating content and posting it on my blog and my new media accounts. I’m excited for the rest of the semester.
